LED Strip Power Supply Guide
Understand the wattage, voltage and current displayed by the LakDlights configurator before confirming a driver.
Configure your LED strip →How our calculation works
The configurator takes the upper stated watts per metre for the selected family, multiplies by a 5 m run and adds 20% spare capacity. This is our planning allowance. Final driver selection must also meet the equipment’s operating and installation requirements.
A worked COB-480 example
The listed range is 8–14 W/m. Using the upper value gives 14 × 5 = 70 W of strip load; adding 20% gives 84 W of planning capacity. At 12 V the displayed capacity corresponds to 7 A; at 24 V it is 3.5 A. This is not a measurement of actual consumption.
Longer lengths need separate planning
For a 10 m selection, our configurator flags two separate supplies, one per 5 m run. That is the website’s planning policy, not a claim that every supply in every installation can power only 5 m. Have the installer confirm feed points, cable sizing and equipment protection.
Choose the real driver
Match output voltage and the required supply type to the strip, then check rated capacity, ambient-temperature derating, dimming compatibility and mounting instructions. The displayed capacity is a minimum planning figure, not a specific driver model. Power supplies are priced separately.
